This Week At Bungie 1/21/2021
Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/50019 This week at Bungie, Hawkmoon is back on the menu. The new Harbinger activity went live this week to accompany the Hawkmoon Exotic quest... like a proverbial peanut butter and jelly. You can now finish this new activity to earn your catalyst to add some extra spice to Hawkmoon. The new activity also lets you earn random rolls so you can start hunting for the perfect one to fit your style. Play the tape! Video Link Completing the Hawkmoon catalyst from the Harbinger activity will not only bring your winged weapon to its full potential but also unlock the Bungie Rewards long-sleeve shirt for purchase. This Hawkmoon inspired shirt is the latest Seasonal offering available on your Bungie Rewards page.
Sticking Around
As we have mentioned in the past, we are moving to make Seasonal content stick around longer to reduce the amount of FOMO, otherwise known as “fear of missing out,” in Destiny 2. Our goal is to help players experience narrative beats and activities even if they start playing later after the Season has ended. Here’s a look at what’s sticking around from Season of the Hunt until the end of Year 4.
Story missions will be able to be launched from a node in the Director.
Wrathborn Hunts
Adored quest will continue to be available.
Crow’s vender screen on Tangled Shore.
Hawkmoon Exotic quest and Master activity.
Seasonal Seal and Warden Title.
Seasonal Seal must still be earned by the deadline on the Bungie Rewards page. Due to an issue blocking the Triumph we will be adjusting this deadline.
Here are a few things that will no longer be available at the end of the Season:
Crow’s Bounties
Messages from the Field
Seasonal Artifact
Season Pass
Shifting to keep more of this content around after the Season ended has created some weirdness for Season of the Hunt, which was initially designed assuming the old model. This is why Crow was still hanging around in Spider’s lair right after being unceremoniously kicked out earlier in the Season. You may see other anomalies involving Crow in Season 13 as he'll be moving to a new destination while also remaining on the Tangled Shore to enable Season of the Hunt content tied to his inventory. Season 13 should avoid these rough edges as its content has been designed from the outset to remain throughout Year 4.
Umbral Engrams Are Back! (They’re pretty insane)
Back in 2020, Season of Arrivals introduced a new feature called Umbral Engrams which allowed Guardians to Focus rewards to the type of weapons and armor rolls they most desired. The system was well-received by the community so we decided to do a little tuning and bring them back for Season 13 as well as future seasons in Year 4. While the new Seasonal activity will always provide the fastest path to earning new rewards. We want to ensure that regardless of how you spend your time in Destiny, Umbral Engrams allow you to chase new rewards. Similar to Season of Arrivals, Umbral Engrams will drop from completing a variety of content. We have pared back the number of activities they will drop from so you can focus on the following activities if you are looking to farm some Umbral Engrams:
Patrols
Strikes
Crucible
Gambit
The Ordeal
Public Events
Blind Well
Nightmare Hunts
Exo Challenges
Empire Hunts
New Seasonal Activity
Note: Umbral Engrams also have a chance to drop from defeating enemies anywhere in the game, so even if you're not grinding this list of activities and playlists, you’ll still be earning some Umbral Engrams. You may notice fewer umbral engrams sitting in your inventory than before. While it was fun to watch umbral engrams rain down on players in season 11, the drop rates were higher than expected and so we are rebalancing the drop rate. There will be a short quest to show players how to use the new Prismatic Recaster (read more about this below) to Focus Umbral Engrams. This quest is account-wide so you only have to do it once.
Prismatic Recaster
The Prismatic Recaster returns as a kiosk with the capability to change Umbral Engrams into Focused Umbral Engrams, which contain a smaller loot-table. Because Umbral Engrams are here to stay, the new Recaster will have different pages for each Season, and you will be able to Focus engrams to the Season of your choice. Image Linkimgur Once you have used the Prismatic Recaster to Focus your Engram, you will still need to take it to the Umbral Decoder to claim your new reward! Note: Season of the Hunt’s Wrathborn rewards will not be featured on the Prismatic Recaster in Season 13, because players can still use the Wrathborn Lure to chase specific weapons and rolls.
Prismatic Lens
We have a new way to unlock different Focusing options for your Umbral Engrams through a new reward called Prismatic Lenses. A Prismatic Lens will unlock a new Focusing option so you can:
Target a narrower collection of gear.
Target specific armor stats.
You will be able to earn Prismatic Lenses by doing various activities in the game and you can track your progress towards unlocking lenses at the Prismatic Recaster. We don’t want to spoil everything though - so we’ll let you discover how to start earning these in Season 13.
Titles - A Gilded Age
One of the most satisfying feelings in Destiny is watching your list of completed Triumphs fill up to unlock new Seals and Titles. We have some plans to further improve this feature and give you yet another way to flex on other Guardians in the Tower. Here is the Triumphs Design Team with the details.
Triumphs Design Team: Hey everyone, welcome to a new year! We wanted to share a change coming to Seals and Titles in Season 13. As I'm sure you've noticed, we've been shipping a Flawless and Conqueror Title each of the last three Seasons. We liked the idea of reengaging with Titles Season over Season, but we don't like the challenge and time commitment of doing the entire thing every Season. So, it's time to make a change! As always, we start with the goals:
Allow players to show off their engagement with the core rituals season over Season.
Preserve the value of earning the base Title.
Decrease the amount of grind required Season over Season for players that want to earn them all.
Starting with season 13, if a player has completed the Seal for one of our core ritual Titles (Unbroken, Dredgen, Flawless, Conqueror), players will have a series of additional Seasonal objectives to gild that Title. But wait, what does gilded mean?
A series of Seasonal objectives to gild a core ritual Title.
A new border around the Seal in the Triumphs UI.
A pip tracking how many times in your career that you've gilded a given Title.
A new color and symbol for the Title over your head. So that you can show off, of course.
Image Linkimgur What do I have to do to gild a Title? Once you finish the base Seal and claim your hard-earned Title, a list of optional Seasonal objectives will be revealed. By completing these Seasonal objectives you'll earn your gild for the Season. Image Linkimgur What happens when the Season is over? Each Season, the optional gilding objectives will reset and may even change to fit the unique experiences of any given Season. All of the base objectives of the Title will be preserved, and your Title will revert to its typical purple coloring. Which Titles will be affected? The four core rituals of Trials, The Ordeal, Crucible, and Gambit.
Flawless
Conqueror
Unbroken
Dredgen
Feedback please! These changes are a result of the constructive feedback we get from all flavors of players in the Destiny community. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Keep that feedback coming and happy Triumph hunting.

DUST AND ECHOES
Almost nine years ago, stats and files from our previous franchise, Halo, stopped getting updated on Bungie.net. Since then, all stats, files, and other data from Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach have lived on in remembrance at halo.bungie.net. On February 9, the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Everyone is welcome to save their stats and files, however they can, if they'd like to save anything. Please keep in mind that our News articles, Forums, and Groups were imported into the current version of Bungie.net back in 2013. Additionally, personal custom Halo avatars that are currently used on Bungie.net will be removed on February 9 due to its functionality living on halo.bungie.net. We are exploring options to bring those back in some capacity, but we recommend saving them to your computer in the meantime.
KNOWN ISSUES
While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:
We're investigating an issue with Sony where Playstation users can't send invites through the Companion App or Bungie.net.
The Lightseeker Triumph isn't unlocking after claiming all five feathers from the Harbinger mission.
The Birds of a Feather Triumph is not unlocking when players complete the Harbinger activity when all players have Hawkmoon equipped.
VO lines are not playing during the Harbinger activity.
The black Blight orbs left behind by the High Celebrant won't open portals if shot by Sidearms.
The High Celebrant will always show "Immune" damage, even with the Wrathborn buff active. The High Celebrant will still take the proper damage if the buff is active. This will be resolved in a future update.
The Augment lockout timer occasionally resets during the final encounter against Taniks.
Sometimes the wrong tether box gets tethered during the final encounter of the Garden of Salvation raid.
The plates in the puzzle room during the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid sometimes won't work if a Titan Ward of Dawn or Warlock Well of Radiance touch them.
For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

Creatives
Image Linkimgur I am a very poor artist and have never been able to draw very well. This makes the beautiful community-created art that fills up my timelines even more impressive to me. It’s truly amazing seeing what you all come up with using the world we built. Here are a few amazing pieces from this week. Art of the Week: The Wrath of Banshee
The Wrath of the Banshee - Destiny 2 Fanart "...his Sword wailing like a Banshee, carrying the weight of thousands of lost souls."
If you won, make sure you post a link to your Bungie.net profile as a comment under your winning art post so we know that you are you. We know there are a lot of community conversations happening around the current state of the game. I don’t want to lean too far into the “We’re listening” meme but it’s 100% true that we take community feedback to heart and are absolutely considering community concerns and suggestions as we continue to evolve our plans for 2021 and beyond. Earlier this week, Assistant Game Director Joe Blackburn put out a Tweet mentioning this and that we will give an update to the community with a deeper dive into the state of Destiny.
Last year, I said Destiny's Best Days are ahead. Seeing what's coming, I believe this more than ever. But we have work to do to get there. 2021 is going to be a little different for Destiny. Taking some time to validate our plans, but expect a state of Destiny 2021 next season. — Joe Blackburn (@joegoroth) January 19, 2021
We love Destiny 2 and love having the privilege to work on it. We’re excited about some of the changes we have next Season and will have some more to lay out over the next few weeks as well. Thanks for playing. <3 Cozmo
Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/50006 This week at Bungie, we’re back in action. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Since the last TWAB, you’ve gotten your hands on Hawkmoon. The Dawning has come and gone. Next-generation consoles received some wonderful enhancements. You’ve released a crow from their cage, and Lord Saladin watched as you decimated your foes with Stasis in the Iron Banner. On the Bungie side of things, we took a breather. This last year has been full of challenges that none of us expected. Even through everything 2020 had in store, we were able to get Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt in your hands. This did come at a bit of a cost, though, and we needed some time to recharge our batteries for a new year. We have no doubt that 2021 will have mountains to climb and unexpected surprises, but we’re all excited to get back into the groove for a new year of Destiny development. So, let’s get this party started. We’ve got four TWABs between you and a fresh Season of Destiny 2 content. You’re hungry for what we've got planned, and we’re eager to dish out the goods. First up, we’ll be looking at a few changes to vendors, Dreaming City and Moon rewards, and some sandbox tuning for Hunter Stasis abilities in the Crucible.
Rewards Update: Dreaming City and the Moon
Since the launch of Beyond Light, we’ve been collecting what feels like a metric ton of feedback on various Destiny systems. While we’ve shared some plans related to rewards, DDoS protection on consoles, crossplay and transmog, we have new details on rewards from two of our more recent destinations: The Moon and the Dreaming City. Rewards Area Lead Justin Dazet will be walking us through some changes in response to player feedback.
Justin: Last month, Assistant Game Director Joe Blackburn spoke about some changes we were making to gear in Season 13 in response to some feedback. Today we’re going to briefly chat about what some of these changes are as they relate to our back catalog of expansions, and the reasoning behind them. First let’s review a list of what you’ll see starting in Season 13:
Reissued Dreaming City Reverie Dawn and Moon Dreambane armor.
These will also drop with high stats when earned in Shattered Throne or Pit of Heresy.
The final chest in Pit of Heresy will no longer drop a fully Masterworked Dreambane armor piece.
Instead, the Dreambane armor piece that drops will have 7 armor energy and is guaranteed to drop with at least a +16 in two different stats and higher stats overall.
Dreambane class items will not drop from this chest.
Reissued 4 weapons for Dreaming City with new Perk Pools.
Waking Vigil, Sleepless, Vouchsafe, and Retold Tale.
Dreaming City weapons that drop in the Shattered Throne dungeon can roll with perks that are unavailable from drops from other reward sources.
Reissued 4 weapons for the Moon with new Perk Pools.
Premonition (Pit of Heresy only), Heretic, Blasphemer, and Apostate.
Weapons that drop in the Pit of Heresy dungeon can roll with perks that are unavailable from drops from other reward sources.
Expanding Lost Sector Legend and Master rotation to 4 Moon Sectors.
K1 Logistics, K1 Communication, K1 Crew Quarters, and K1 Revelation.
We are making these changes to help preserve the relevancy of the destinations, specifically some of the pinnacle end-game activities that still exist there. To get more specific around the actual experience, activities where re-issues are acquired will be heavily weighted towards rewarding re-issued gear over capped gear -- though the exact weighting and mechanisms may differ. For example: In the Dreaming City if you have already obtained an infusion capped weapon, it will not drop for you again. Image Link While not every gear source or Legendary reward will be kept up to date for the entire lifetime these destinations are available, we do believe there’s high value in targeting some specific activity drops for continued relevancy to give you more options for where to spend time as you seek to improve your arsenal.
Turn in those Tokens
Since Destiny 2 launched, Guardians have been amassing vendor reputation tokens. These could be turned in for Legendary gear, which would usually be dismantled for Legendary Shards and materials. Looking to the future, the team is excited to update the ways in which you earn reputation with ritual vendors and the rewards that come from them. Dazet, back to you!
Justin: The rewards for continuous ritual playlist completion has been a subject that’s come up several times as we’ve looked over Beyond Light feedback, and we’re happy to announce some changes coming soon to Gambit, Crucible, and strike reward structure. Firstly, we’ll be adding two new unique weapon rewards to each of the three playlist rituals (so six total across all three activities). These weapons are in addition to the ones added in Season of the Hunt, and continue to have a small chance to drop at the end of each activity. Second, starting in Season 13 for Gambit and Crucible (Valor) and in a future Season for strikes, rank rewards will be visible on the ritual vendors. Each Season you’ll be greeted by a row of rewards, progression toward which will be earned automatically as you complete relevant playlist activities. Instead of having rank rewards dropped automatically into your loot stream, they now will be picked up manually from the vendor lists. We feel this gives much better visibility into what you’ll be earning as you progress, and helps you make better choices about where to spend your time. Image Linkimgur Progression is on a per-ritual basis. You can be on Rank 10 for Crucible and Rank 4 for Gambit, for example. You’ll reset your rank right at the vendor by picking up the final reward. Rewards for each individual ritual are as follows:
Rank 4: 3x Upgrade Modules
Rank 7: 3x Enhancement Cores
Rank 10: Seasonal Ritual Shader (changes to 3x Enhancement Cores after resetting your rank)
Rank 13: 2x Enhancement Prisms
Rank 16: Seasonal Ritual Emblem (changes to 2x Enhancement Prisms after resetting your rank)
Reset Reward: Ascendant Shard (changes to Exotic Engram after resetting your rank)
Every rank-up awards a base Ritual Engram just like before. Additionally, each of the above ranks also awards a Prime Ritual Engram. Image Linkimgur Due to this automated progression, Crucible Tokens and Crucible Token Gifts are no longer needed and will be deprecated into junk that will delete as a full stack starting in Season 13. So, cash those tokens in before the end of the Season, and get ready to earn some Masterwork materials!
Taking a pass: Revenant Shatterdive & Fissures
The conversation and feedback on rewards wasn’t the only thing we were tracking over the holiday break. Many of you have been spending time in the Crucible, experimenting with Stasis and all of the ways in which it can change the flow of a PvP match. Prior to the break, we had a round of tuning for Warlocks. Next up, we’re looking at Hunters, but also have some comments on our approach to future Stasis tuning as we head in to the new year. Please welcome Combat Area Lead Tomonori Kinoshita back to the TWAB to talk through our goals for Stasis abilities in PvP.
Tomo: Over the holiday break we saw Trials go live, and with that a wealth of valuable feedback from the community. Along with this feedback, we have been tracking data from Trials and identified some short-term changes, as well as more mid-term goals we are focusing on in the coming weeks and months. Short term goal: Address outlier Stasis abilities to keep subclass decision making interesting.
Reduce the potency of Shatter Dive + Whisper of Fissures against Guardians, going live with Update 3.0.2.
Shatterdive
Now has damage falloff vs. unfrozen targets
Max range damage reduced from 50 to 5
Damage reduction during ability reduced from 50% to 25%
Whisper of Fissures
Reduced max-min damage vs. non-super players from 42-22 to 30-4
Reduced max-min damage vs. super players from 42-22 to 16-2
Reduced detonation radius vs. players from 10m to 9m
Investigate the efficacy of the Stasis Titan Behemoth Super. We want to let the above change settle to see where the Behemoth stands in our PvP hierarchy, but this is next on our radar.
Mid-term goal: Improve PvP subclass usage and win-rate balance.
Addressing Stasis ability outliers will help us lower the ceiling, but we also want to pull up other underperforming Light subclasses.
Mid-term goal: Review our ability-to-gunplay balance in PvP.
Destiny is a game about both explosive space magic moments and intrinsically satisfying gunplay. Especially in our 3v3 playlists, the usage of abilities has climbed as we introduce more and more ways to charge them quickly.
We’re still in very early discussions, but we’re looking into restoring a better balance where proper gunplay is rewarding in these playlists.
A few of you noticed that prior to our holiday break, we were able to get a few sandbox changes delivered faster than expected. Thanks to changes on Destiny 2’s backend and the Destiny Content Vault, our patch pipeline is indeed better than before! That said, some changes won't happen at light speed, as our team wants the appropriate time to collect feedback, check the data, and test proposed changes. Once these changes have been validated, we’ll be eager to get you details via TWABs, blog articles, and more.
Worldwide Community
Sometimes, it can be difficult to think of how large the Destiny community has become since 2014. It seems no matter where you may be in the world, you might bump in to a fellow Hunter, Warlock, or Titan. Last year, we bolstered our efforts with the addition of two international community managers. Join us in welcoming a third to the team! Introducing our new Russian Community Manager, Ivan Yanyushkin.
Ivan: Privet! My name is Ivan and I'm the latest community manager added to the team for Russian speaking Guardians. In Destiny 2 I enjoy making raids more complicated by doing them with fewer than six people and endlessly roaming around Europa on my Warlock, which for me is a meditating experience. Some of you might know me from my past work at Blizzard Entertainment, where I worked as a community manager for different titles. This experience will help me, but I will also be thankful for your guidance. Feel free to reach out to tell me what works, what doesn’t, and how things can be improved for the Destiny community. One day, when real-life gaming events finally become possible again, I will be happy to meet you in person. But for now, let’s stay in touch on Twitter, VKontakte, and on the Russian Bungie Forums. It’s an honor to work with such an amazing community. My job will be to pass the voice of the players to developers, help local content makers grow, manage Russian social media channels, and take care of many other duties. I’ll do my best to be Ivan the Great not the Terrible! P.S. Hopefully one day I’ll even get used to the fact that Hydras explode after death :) Spasibo.

Some players couldn't respawn if they died during the boss fight of the Inverted Spire strike.
Players could get out of environment in several Crucible maps.
Some quest items were not dropping in the Moon Freeroam activity. This prevented completion of several "Essence" quests, such as Essence of Rage, Essence of Insanity, and Essence of Servitude.
The Unrelenting perk was not triggering health regeneration.
MIDA Multi-Tool's catalyst wasn't dropping from Competitive Crucible wins.
Taken Psions were replicating too rapidly in some Prophecy dungeon encounters.

KNOWN ISSUES While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:
The Exotic Ship Reward from the High Celebrant mission is not properly showing that it is a “Rare” chance reward in the activity description. Chances for this reward increase with each activity completion.
Portals aren't opening when the High Celebrant leaves because the black orbs take no damage. Players can mitigate this issue by not using Sidearms and not shooting the orb as it immediately spawns.
Enemies in Crucible and PvE aren't colorblind-friendly when highlighted.
The Special Finisher mod no longer unlocks for new players.
Bomber mods don't work when Hunters have the Dragon's Shadow Exotic equipped.
The Overload Shot on Auto Rifles doesn’t proc if you hold down the trigger right after reloading, even though it does the Overload animation.
Some players receive the BIRD error code trying to get to the Wall of Wishes in the Last Wish raid.
Sometimes the Vault encounter in the Last Wish raid won't let you read icons nor spawn enemies after slamming on a plate or finishing a phase.
Sometimes Riven doesn't get stunned on the second level in the final encounter of the Last Wish raid.
The Forfeit Shrine Ascendant Challenge completion doesn't count towards the Ascendant Champion or Honed for Speed Triumphs, blocking the Cursebreaker Seal.
The Run the Gauntlet Triumph doesn't unlock when completing the time trial in the Cimmerian Garrison Ascendant Challenge.
Ahamkara Bones are missing in the Shattered Throne dungeon and multiple Ascendant Challenges.
Players will sometimes go into a Nightfall with 16 people when they try loading into the Tower.
Sometimes dialogue gets cut off at the end of a Wrathborn Hunt.
For Hunters using the Way of the Warrior subclass, Combination Blow sometimes stops working and doesn't give Gambler's Dodge back.
Non-Exo characters are receiving Exo specific dialogue on Europa.
The Light of the Dawning emblem cannot equip stat trackers.
The Coaxial Bonds ornaments for Ophidian Aspect causing the bottom-left of the screen to glitch/flicker.

THIS WEEK AT NOT BUNGIE - 2/1/2021
This Week at Not Bungie, please see this official Destiny inspired shirt. Welcome to the second loop of dunking all four feathers on players in their first trip through backend data. Crow has found a new reward called Prismatic Memories that you will help alleviate from each artist. Ongoing maintenance is expected to conclude in 2013. More information on Season of Heresy will roll on perks that are unavailable from drops. Issues may only be acquired when players on Playstation complete strikes in the shattered replica of your big novelty Hawkmoon. Prior to anything on Tuesday, players who observe roaming supers can log back into Destiny 2 on Twitter after verification from Halo 2. This will be taken offline permanently after death. Please see another platform for your Umbral Engrams.
Introducing: Seasonal Legibility Over the last week, we've been working on Halo 3. Everything shakes out of Crow in Season of Your Rank. We wanted to take some FOMO and vaporize your vault. To solve these changes, we continue investigating adding Hawkmoon to Halo 2. Everything shakes when we made these changes. Some great new rewards are currently missing out on PC. Hand cannons will drop from your hands when they already have 6,000 kills. Some weapons now fire players through the seasonal content. We recommend quitting out of Crucible matches when players activate supers.
Stylish Magic In February, please see another player. We can't send you more invites. Some of our employees will be spending time with your accounts. Give your ears to the Drifter. Penumbral blast mods were duplicating too much, so we have to thank our Blackburn for deleting Crucible. Here to talk about how we don't want to make more motes than you is Senior Cookie Protrusion, Tyson Maintenance. Tyson: Over the next few years, we are currently longer than before. Everyone who contributed to the Deep Stone Timer was occasionally too small. If you haven't jumped in the boss phone cinematics, try loading correctly. These are the big commitments we're excited to make.
Every week, for the first 10 seasons of Halo merchandise, we weighted your Bright Dust to take a ride down the rainbow road.
Some challenges now award 450k Titan grenades.
Players can now pull out bones from frozen Hunters.
Completing strikes will now impact earnable shaders for poorly assembled Warlocks.
This is the fifth thing.
Challenges now award destination feedback.
Bounties now drop FOMO couch dust.
dmg04 increased to make sure you've had fun.
Cozmo increased to 42,676,699hz.
Crucible matches adjusted to 24 seconds.
Gambit matches adjusted to 2-week campaign quests that last 1700 hours.
Raid rewards now award player heads.
Bungie now grants seasonal content every three months.
Strikes now award possible details on future update issues.
Issues now award strike rewards and 7,156,651 bright dust.
Bright Dust now awards inconsistently exciting things.
Players now award video content.
The Tower now awards Twitter content.
Thanks for the incoming update pile!
Next-Gen, Next Year We are developing a fix for the new version of Destiny 3 on next-gen consoles. Expect new newly created news for the game gameplay on Xbox 5 and Playstation Series X|S. We will find you when it isn't time.
Movie of Customizable Deaths GameStop is intentional. Reduced your montages. Not being awarded after defeating enemies is intentional. These are continuing to leverage our technology for your entertainment. Movie of the Visual Effects: Menu Sharing for Wrong Snipers Honorable Subtitles: Allow Players to Reacquire Players Check your creation phone for emblems. We won't spend too much time on your accounts.
Another week, another appearance of Bungie employees. Stay tuned and away for season pass pool distance news. This year of new guardians will sometimes go into the Crucible and provide montages for top players. Additionally, we are listening to feedback on Halo 3 on Twitter. We don't want to. Thank you and your very low expectations. Until next year. <3 Not Cozmo

New Mode: Sabotage (COMING FEBRUARY 5TH!)
Welcome to our newest limited-time mode, Sabotage. In each round of this 4v4 match, both teams fight to take control of a neutral bomb and detonate it in the enemy team's zone or eliminate the enemy team's tickets. If you have the bomb, be careful because the enemy team can see you! Similar to Strikeout, you can respawn as many times as you like until you run out of tickets. A best of five rounds will determine the winner and you'll switch sides each time!
Each round lasts 4 minutes.
Each team has 40 tickets.
The respawn time is 7 seconds.
A team wins by planting the bomb or having the most tickets left when the round ends.
There is no defend time once you plant the bomb.
While a player is holding the bomb they are revealed to friendlies in green and enemies in gold.
The bomb will reset where it spawns if it gets thrown off the map or is idle for 30 seconds.
In Season One we are introducing boosts that you can earn at various levels in the Battle Pass. A few important notes:
These boosts will increase your base experience gained by 100% before bonuses.
Only one boost can be active at a time.
Once activated, the boost will continue running even if you are offline.
You can view and activate your available boosts in the "Boosts" menu found in the bottom left corner of the main menu.
Ranked Season One
Tiers and Divisions The climb to Rogue is not an easy one, and we want you to have a real feeling of accomplishment as you move up through the ranks. Season One will better define where players stand by introducing 6 new Tiers from Bronze to Rogue, the first five containing 5 separate Divisions.
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Platinum
Diamond
Rogue
With the new Ranked system, we want to create competitive matchmaking, and with this in mind, we are introducing new features to place you with players close to your skill. At the beginning of each Ranked Season, players will participate in 10 placement matches and placed in a Tier and Division based on their performance. The second way we are improving matchmaking for Ranked is the inclusion of party restrictions. In Season One you will not be able to queue in a party unless all members are within 6 divisions of each other. Reputation Gain and Leveling With Season One, we are removing the Level Reputation earned per match and providing it in a different way. The following changes have been made:
Rewards given at each level have been doubled.
Contract rewards have been increased significantly (300 and 500 per contract).
Contracts renewal will now provide you with 3 contracts at once per day instead of 1 every 6 hours.

Hello Miners! It’s the first Update of 2021, and we got some spicy stuff for you! This time we got two entirely new Planetary Regions for you to explore - the mysterious wonders of the AZURE WEALD, and the thorn-infested hell of HOLLOW BOUGH. Update 33 also includes all-new Mactera variations and several new strains of horrible Glyphid Dreadnought mutations. And then of course there’s the usual slew of other goodies - read more below for the full picture! With Love, The Ghost Ship Crew --- PATCH NOTES ---
NEW BIOME: AZURE WEALD
PHOTO The Azure Weald is a chilly place, every bit as hostile as the rest of Hoxxes IV - but still, we cannot deny it is oddly beautiful. Dazzling, bioluminescent clusters of lichen light up the darkness, illuminating this fertile and overgrown Region in flickering neon colors. Don't let that lull you into a false sense of security, however - the Azure Weald brings to mind the deep jungle, in all its splendor and horror - and much like its terrestrial counterparts, it is absolutely not out to make friends. Kill or be killed - that is the law in this place.
NEW BIOME: HOLLOW BOUGH
PHOTO Hollow Bough is a biological oddity that has the Science Department scratching their heads - this entire region of the planet is dominated by colossal, organic conglomerations resembling the inside of hollow trees. However, these structures are under attack by an invasive species of voracious vine-like plants, as much a threat to us as the planet itself. We recommend traversing these environs with extreme caution. The deep, dark folds of wood and bark house much more than a first glance let on.
NEW MILESTONES
New Biomes means new Milestones - one set for Azure Weald and one for Hollow Bough.
MISSION OVERHAUL: ELIMINATION
PHOTO It’s Dawn of the Dread down there! Multiple reports have come in from teams finding Dreadnought Cocoons that are further progressed in their metamorphosis than previously encountered. While there are no external markers on the cocoons to show that they are different, the things waiting patiently inside certainly are. So far two confirmed Dreadnought variants have been encountered - but disturbing as this is, R&D ensures us that we are fortunate to have found them now and not later when the metamorphosis might be closer to completion.
DREADNOUGHT HIVEGUARD
PHOTO Completely covered in unbreakable armor, this variant of the Dreadnought is immune to all damage, exposing it’s vulnerable areas only briefly while enraged. To make matters worse, the Hiveguard can call reinforcements to aid it in battle, hence the name. The Glyphid Sentinels that answer this battlecall are unlike any we have ever seen. We have no idea where they are coming from but they are both fast and tough. R&D recommends engaging the Dreadnought Hiveguard with great caution and a lot of ammunition.
DREADNOUGHT ARBALEST AND LACERATOR
Question: What’s worse than one Glyphid Dreadnought? Answer: Two Glyphid Dreadnoughts. It would appear that a Cocooned Dreadnought can split in two during metamorphosis. The two monsters - the Arbalest and Lacerator - are both quite different from the original and from each other, displaying wholly unique behaviors. They would be bad enough on their own, but together they pose an immense threat - able to attack from multiple directions and varying ranges at once, while also displaying extreme mobility. Luckily, their shells are softer than that of a regular Dreadnought, allowing damage to pass through from any angle. R&D insists that this apparent weakness is only due to the untimely opening of the cocoon.
MISSION OVERHAUL: SALVAGE
LOCATING MINE M.U.L.E. LEGS It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, but we have finally fixed the issues with locating all the legs needed to fix the Mini M.U.L.E.s. We’ve taken this opportunity to also tweak the gameplay around it to better match our original vision. Now you can interact with a broken M.U.L.E. to download the locations of its missing legs to your terrain scanner. No more searching high and low for that last leg. CONNECT FUEL CELLS TO DROP POD Update 32 came with a bunch of new tech that we were more than happy to add to existing missions. Exactly how the fuel made it from the fuel cells to the drop pod has always been a bit of a mystery, but not any more! Now in just a few easy steps you can connect a fuel-line between the two, similar to how you build pipelines in the On Site Refining mission.
MISSION OVERHAUL: POINT EXTRACTION
After the release of Update 32 with its shiny new machines, the old Minehead really began to show its age. We decided it was time a model update, to make it match the raised standard. We hope you like it.
NEW ENEMIES
PHOTO MACTERA TRI-JAW A new type of Mactera has been spotted in the depths. More cautious than its brethren, the Tri-Jaw tends to hang further back while delivering a triple barrage of projectiles. Make no mistake, it is a deadly thing, and should be exterminated with extreme prejudice. MACTERA BRUNDLE Reports have been coming in of an armoured Mactera variant spotted flying in the swarm. These tough cookies can survive many attacks that would outright kill their more fragile cousins and they keep their vulnerable abdomens covered most of the time. DEEPTORA BOUGH WASP A distant cousin of the Deeptora has been spotted living in the folds and nooks of the Hollow Bough. Like their sand-dwelling cousins, the Bough Wasps are extremely territorial and will swarm any intruder that stray too close to their nest. STABBER VINE Hollow Bough is full of creepy stuff but none is as dangerous as the Stabber Vine. Plant or animal, the jury is still out on this one - regardless, it is very aggressive and persistent in its assault. Any dwarf foolish enough to stray too close will be repeatedly attacked by its stabbing vines. Keep your eyes peeled for the tell-tale spike on the end of it, as most of its body is difficult to distinguish from the overall mass of otherwise relatively harmless red vines that infest the area.
NEW JUKEBOX CONTENT
PHOTO Some content creators have experienced copyright claims from music in the jukebox. So far we have tried to spot fix the problem by removing tunes that caused this problem, but now we have a better solution. We have produced 8 new “safe” tracks which are the only ones you will hear when you tick off STREAMER MODE: DISABLE COPYRIGHTED JUKEBOX MUSIC in the option menu. Those 8 tunes are of course also available to everyone in the “normal” Jukebox. This solution has also enabled us to bring back previously removed tunes. Furthermore we have added a bunch of new dance moves. So it’s time to kill it on the dance floor!
STEAM AWARD AWARD HELMET
PHOTO In celebration of our Steam Award nomination and our amazing community that made it possible, we would like to present to you a fancy new helmet: The Bolted Marauder. Just because you deserve it!
OVERHAUL OF MINERAL TRADE
The Mineral Trade menu was deemed ready for an update by Management. It’s now more intuitive than ever and juicy new Daily Deals have been added. Once per day, you can now benefit from an extra good deal (as in, not so bad deal!)l.
M.U.L.E. DOCKING
Some long overdue polish on the docking of the M.U.L.E. is finally here. No more jittery flapping about, Molly now has her own spot on the Drop Pod with a fancy electro-magnetic crane for loading and unloading.
SAVE DORETTA
PHOTO Since almost the first test of the Escort Mission on our experimental branch players have been requesting for a way to save Doretta. It’s something many here at GSG have wanted as well and we are happy to announce that you no longer have to leave Doretta all alone in the dark. While it is not viable to return the bulk of the Drilldozer back to the Space Rig, kind dwarves can now grab Doretta’s head and carry it with them to the escape pod. Just don’t expect any rewards or praise for doing so - Management couldn't care less!
GLYPHID DREADNOUGHT TWEAKS
Along the new Dreadnoughts, we also paid a visit to the original Dreadnought and tweaked it up a bit.
Dreadnought is now more aggressive and can now shoot two fireballs in a row when under 50% HP
Increased the Dreadnought's armor HP across all hazard levels but especially for Hazard Level 4 and 5 and made the Dreadnought's armor regrow after taking less damage
How soon the Dreadnought's armour regrows now scales with hazard for solo games just as it does for multiplayer
Extended the time before the dread regrows it's shield on lower hazards
Increased the Dreadnoughts base health across all hazard levels but especially for haz 4 and 5
The Dreadnought is now more aggressive in multiplayer games
Increased OG Dreadnought's movement speed, especially for higher hazards
Made the Dreadnought's speed scale properly in solo games across the different hazard levels
Increased the range of the Dreadnought's Trembling Stomp AoE attack, extended the duration of the attack's warning phase and improved the visibility of the warning
Made the Dreadnought occasionally perform it's Trembling Stomp AoE Attack after being frozen
The Dreadnought now unfreezes at a higher temp but gets there just as fast, making it harder to quickly freeze him twice in a row
Expanded the splash range of the dreadnoughts Swarm Bladder projectile
The Dreadnought is now invulnerable for the few seconds while it's armor regrows
In multiplayer games, when only one player is left alive the Dread will occasionally stop to roar(similar to how it does in solo games) giving the last player a slightly better chance to revive or resupply, etc.
"Sticky Flame Slowdown" mod no longer slows the Dreadnought down to a crawl, it's still effective just not as extreme
Decreased carve size of the Dread's fireball
Fixed the Dreadnought damaging itself with some of it's attacks
WEAPON BALANCING NOTE
Our focus has been wholly on the new Biomes and Enemies for this Update, so there has been basically no tweaking of weapons or gear done at all.

[The Legend of Zelda Fandom] Joe_Cracker and the Light of Courage: A naive fanboy's screenplay becomes a classic fan-animation and later part of a campaign for Congress
Prepare to Get Crackasized! The Legend of Zelda is a long-running fantasy video game series from Nintendo, essentially ubiquitous in popular culture. However, this drama concerns itself quite little with the games themselves, but the antics and exploits of possibly the most infamous fan of the series and his quixotic quest to get a script based on the series turned into an animated movie. The year was 2003. The most recent game in the series at that point was The Wind Waker, and along with speculation about future titles and the much-debated Zelda timeline, a popular forum topic was the possibility of a movie based on the series, with dream casting, directors, plots, etc. It was not uncommon to see fan-scripts posted on forums like Zelda Universe, with varying degrees of quality. Importantly for this story, most fans at the time hated the only official animated adaptation of Zelda, the cartoon series from 1989 (link doesn't work outside of the USA). Joe_Cracker, real name Robert C. McGee, was a 19-year-old high school senior from York, South Carolina. He posted the first message in a now-infamous thread on the IGN Zelda forums announcing his ambitious plans to create an animated movie based on the 1989 cartoon series titled "The Light of Courage," with elements from later games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask included. He promised the following:
This is it, this is what you guys wanted. All you guys who want to talk about the Zelda movie, this is the topic for you. As you may all know, the movie is based on the 80's t.v. show, and the simplist things about this movie is.
It will use the same animation from the T.V. show but with an up to date look, such as shadow effects, motion effects, and more
The same sound effects, that originated from the first Zelda game will be used as well as many others, old and new.
It will also feature most of the same voice cast, but for my ideas for new cariters and other Zelda cariters, never seen in the T.V. show and who should do their voices, I will post them in other topics everytime 10 people sign my petition.
A few free give aways, I want to cast myself to be the voices of "The Triforce of Courage" and "Majora's Mask". I want to bring in Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells to do a "Super Mario Bros. Super Mini Movie" that will play in front of the main feature.
All petition updates and sneak peaks will be posted as seprate topics
That is all.
Joe's wide-eyed optimism and earnest, but naive, attempts to get his script turned into a film bemused certain forumites. He insisted that he could obtain the rights to the Zelda series via a PetitionOnline page, and imagined an all-star cast, including Whoopi Goldberg and Britney Spears. One forum user nicknamed "THESPOTLIGHT" attempted to inject Joe with a sense of reality.
📷Date Posted: 9/9/03 2:46pm Subject: RE: The Legend of Zelda: The Light of Courage - A working progress Joe Cracker Said: "Once I am done with the screenplay, I want to submit to the right people that will help me get the Legal rights to do whatever I want with it and re-asemble the original voice cast."---------------------------------------------I say:I bet you don't evem know WHO the RIGHT people are! There isn't a team of people looking for amature screenplays to turn into low-budgeted movies. The rights to do a Zelda movie alone costs OVER A MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO PRODUCER IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD EVER LISTEN TO YOU OR YOUR PETITION. I just being honest with you. I know what it takes and you don't have it. You may be creative but it takes EXPERIENCE to make a good 90 min movie. The Cracker will crumble under the pressure.
Undaunted, the Cracker persisted, handing out flyers in his hometown to get people to sign his online petition. Unfortunately, less than 20 people signed. Out of a combination of frustration and pity, Spotlight agreed to help Joe as a script doctor, but Joe interpreted this arrangement as allowing himself to promote the as-yet-incomplete film online rather than working on his script. Throughout 2004, Spotlight was essentially subject to Cracker's demands and rewrites, being treated as an unpaid employee rather than a partner. Cracker attempted to raise money for his film by selling the NES "Where's Waldo?" game, a film reel of Shrek 2 which he had fished out of a movie theater dumpster, then by selling albums of himself singing on eBay. Spotlight went offline several times, only to poke his head back out and complain about the poor quality of the script and how he was essentially having to re-write it entirely, but Joe brushed off all criticism and insisted the final product would be "Crackasized." By October 2004, the beleaguered co-screenwriter Spotlight abandoned the project, finally done humoring Joe. However, a trio (Triforce?) of trolls emerged to take his place. The first of the trolls was sexualburgerking, who posed as a genuine fan of Cracker's work, pretending to create purposefully-bad fan art for use in the Light of Courage project. He said of Joe_Cracker,
Joe_Cracker is an inspirational craftsman whose talent is only overshadowed by his creative energy. As you can see, he is such an inspiration that at least four talented individuals have offered their creativity and effort to Joe's project, while asking for nothing from him in return.
The second troll was Cellius_18, who created a parody of Joe's project called "The Beacon of Courage," while pretending that it was an earnest attempt to make an animated Zelda movie, as Joe's project was. The reveal of this "knockoff" of course drove Joe bananas, but was intended to get him to work harder on his project. The third troll was orquiox, another user pretending to help with the animation and scripting. Together, the three trolls impersonated John Grusd, who was producer of the 1980s Zelda series, and convinced Cracker that DiC Entertainment was open to producing a full-length Zelda movie (that the rights to the IP ultimately rested with Nintendo went over Joe's head). Joe_Cracker sent "John Grusd" his script, and the movie ultimately got produced as threeCGI-animatedshorts with intentionally-amateurish animation, with dialogue taken straight from Cracker's script, misspellings and grammar errors and all. They released throughout 2005 and 2006, with a promised fourth short languishing in development hell, with the producers jokingly saying it will be finished in 2035. The three videos soon became comedy classics on Zelda boards, with the now-defunct website "Dancing Triforce" set up to host them. Lines such as "My son keeps getting stronger and more braver every day," and "I cased over the moon" became memes among the Zelda fandom in the late 2000s. Time passed and everyone moved on. Joe_Cracker made a full-length Bigfoot mocumentary called "The Unknown Creature", which is essentially 90 minutes of wandering around the woods. He attempted to create the "Perfect NES Clone" and program an NES ROM-maker software with features like 3D graphics generation, despite having zero programming knowledge. He solicited several denizens of the Atari Age forums to "assist" him in this endeavor, but none bit. However, in 2013, he left his filmmaking behind to pursue higher office. Seeing that South Carolina Congressman Mick Mulvaney (who would later become the Trump White House Chief of Staff) was running unopposed, the onetime Internet celebrity attempted to leverage his minor fame to run for Congress. However, Robert C. McGee did not file to run in any political primary, and his campaigning was limited to handing out flyers much like he had for his PetitionOnline page years earlier. Said flyers made explicit reference to the decade-old Light of Courage. Robert McGee received a negligible amount of votes in this heavily-Republican district running as a write-in Democrat. Today, Joe_CrackeRobert McGee maintains a Twitter account and hasn't pursued any more grandiose projects, but his saga brought plenty of laughs 15 years ago. An archived version of the infamous script is here.

Balance Changes
Dart Monkey While we’re happy with Dart Monkey being a more niche or early use tower, too many people were finding Juggernaut itself even further niche or lackluster on first impression. While retaining the overpower power potential we’ve added a beefy impact to each individual target hit, and we’ve tweaked sharpshooter slightly to provide similar power but with more of a speed focus to enable more distinct crosspath choice between speed and pierce.
4xx Juggernaut damage increased from 1 -> 2
4xx Juggernaut pierce reduced from 100 -> 50
xx4 Sharpshooter attack delay reduced from 0.85 -> 0.75
xx4 Sharpshooter damage reduced from 6 -> 5
T5's both remain the same
Boomerang Monkey Small price adjustment to push when you get this tower a little closer to when it’s useful.
5xx Glaive Lord price reduced from $40,000 to $35,000
Bomb Shooter Small nerf to the regular-Bloon power of MOAB Mauler’s domination.
x3x MOAB Mauler bonus to Ceramic reduced from 4 -> 3
x4x MOAB Assassin unchanged
Tack Shooter With pierce and range on the base Tack Zone so high that increases weren’t noticeable the middle crosspath was underserved. To balance crosspathing we have reworked the base Tack Zone around lower values then improving them greatly for the crosspaths.
xx5 The Tack Zone damage increased from 1 -> 2
xx5 The Tack Zone range reduced from 46 -> 30
xx5 The Tack Zone pierce reduced from 9 to 4
025 The Tack Zone range increased to 50
025 The Tack Zone pierce increased to 10
Ice Monkey Ice Monkey power is currently too bottom heavy and mid-to-higher tiers are neglected, so some tweaks to mid-tier upgrades have been made.
4xx Embrittlement price reduced from $3000 -> 2200
x3x Arctic Wind price reduced from $3200 -> 2900
xx3 Cryo Cannon price reduced from $2000 -> 1750
x4x Snowstorm ability cooldown decreased from 60s -> 30
Glue Gunner Adjustments to top-path upgrades to make each step more noticeable. Very small nerf to the slow amount on MOAB Glue as it has for a long time held a dominating spot in MOAB support, but this same amount has been returned to the previous value at Tier 4. We are still looking at future improvements here, including reworking the priority tree of glue stacks.
3xx Bloon Dissolver price reduced from $2700 -> 2600
4xx Bloon Liquifier pierce increased from 1 -> 2
xx3 MOAB Glue slow amount on MOABs reduced from 0.625x -> 0.75x
xx4 Relentless Glue slow amount on MOABs remains 0.625x
Sniper Monkey Small improvements for underloved sniper upgrades with respective path specialties intact. As bottom path sniper has proven superiority for group damage dealing in many situations and middle T4 on the group-damage path has only offered a farming option, the pierce of shrapnel has been doubled at this T4 to add offensive value as well..
5xx Cripple MOAB damage increased from 60 -> 80
x4x Supply Drop’s shrapnel pierce increased from 3 -> 6
Monkey Sub As Bloontonium Reactor rarely uses up enough pierce that the pierce crosspath would ever matter, a large chunk of this has been moved into the middle crosspath.
400 Bloontonium Reactor pierce reduced from 70 -> 50
410 Bloontonium Reactor pierce reduced from 84 -> 70
420 Bloontonium Reactor pierce increased from 50 -> 100
Monkey Ace Monkey Ace was never intended to be a great starting tower and instead come into power at mid- and high-tier upgrades, but since the base tower feels lacking to new players (and some of us old timers) we decided to rework low tier power into the base tower. In addition to this we are experimenting with adding a small amount of homing to the spectre upgrade as rapid fire missing is not the intended design.
Monkey Ace projectile size increased from 2 -> 3
Monkey Ace attack delay reduced from 2.1s -> 1.68
1xx Rapid Fire attack rate buff reduced from 40% -> 25%
x1x Exploding Pineapple attack delay reduced from 3s -> 2
104 Spectre which always gained 25% from Rapid Fire is unchanged
xx4 Spectre now has a very slight seeking effect on the dart projectiles
xx5 Flying Fortress price reduced from $105k -> 100k
Heli Pilot Further small buff to Comanche as prior balancing has not felt sufficient.
xx4 Heli reinforcements duration increased from 12s -> 15
Wizard Monkey Despite ranking low overall, Wizard Lord Phoenix has dodged balance changes because of its extremely popular place as a challenge tower. With the rise of other towers in challenges, we’ve decided to start off buffing it based on its own merits in general gameplay. We’ve also added some previously intended minor changes to Prince of Darkness which were held back due to bugs that have now been resolved.
x5x Wizard Lord Phoenix price reduced from $60,000 -> 54,000
x5x Wizard Lord Dragon's Breath damage increased from 1 -> 2
xx5 Prince of Darkness pops retained in graveyard increased from 2 -> 3 rounds
xx5 Prince of Darkness grave required for damage stacks increased from 200 -> 300
Alchemist Lead to Gold hasn’t been a competitive 3rd tier outside of special game modes and challenges, so we’ve added some more uniqueness by allowing it to truly live up to its description and deal enough damage to instantly ‘convert’ a Lead Bloon, children layers and all, also carrying on some value here in the later game by allowing this bonus to deal extra against DDTs as well.
xx3 Lead to Gold attacks deals +9 damage to Lead & DDT
Druid The most recent buff to Superstorm was great fun, but when spending pierce so quickly we wouldn’t see many extra Ball Lightnings. Since many find Superstorm lacking in pierce overall, the ‘extra’ pierce consumptions for hitting larger targets have been reduced to make it more effective and more lightningey.
4xx Ball Lighting price reduced from $6000 -> 5500
5xx Superstorm pierce consumptions buffed: DDT to 50 -> 10
Banana Farm Monkey Bank is just too stonks even without Benjamin. This nerf shouldn’t hurt it too much, but will make it snowball a little bit slower and balance with the other paths better.
x3x Monkey Bank price increased from $3300 -> 3500
Spike Factory Like a few other towers before it, the attack speed crosspath for Spike Factory has outshined the others. We have reworked the lower Spike Factory tiers to distribute this power more evenly while keeping high tier factories at a similar level of power.
Spike Factory price increased from $800 -> 1000
x1x Faster Production price reduced from $700 -> 600
x2x Even Faster Production price reduced from $900 -> 800
Spike Factory attack delay reduced from 2.2s -> 1.75
x1x Spike Factory rate increase reduced from 40% -> 20
x2x Spike Factory rate increase increased from 25% -> 30
x5x Carpet of Spikes price reduced from $42,000 -> 40,000
Monkey Village Call to Arms didn’t last enough in some critical situations where it could have made the difference, so this duration has been increased slightly.
x4x Call to Arms duration increased from 10s -> 12
x5x Homeland Defense unchanged
Engineer Sentry Expert has underperformed for a while, so we’re adding solid crosspathing buffs to all Sentries. We’ve added a pierce & speed boost to Overclock’s base upgrade and lowered the cooldown on Ultraboost to allow the possibility for it to achieve full uptime as a freeplay tower and get its stacks up faster. Finally last update we allowed Bloontrap to be set multiple times per round, and we wanted to stay on the side of caution with a long cooldown, but after seeing it in the wild we are happy to make this cooldown faster.
120 Deconstruction now gives all Sentries +1 damage to Fort & MOAB
401 now increases sentry pierce by roughly 25% instead of +1
401 Crushing Sentry pierce increased from 22 -> 28
x5x Ultraboost ability cooldown reduced from 45 -> 35
xx4 Bloontrap attack delay reduced from 20 -> 15
204 Bloontrap attack delay buff increased from 0.8x -> 0.6x
Dartling Gunner As our most recently added tower we are very happy with all the excitement surrounding this beloved monkey tower and the general middleground play position. We’re happy enough with its time in the wild to make some first impression changes here which we hope you’ll continue to enjoy.
4xx Plasma Accelerator can now apply Laser Shock with the beam as well as focal point
5xx Ray of Doom price reduced from $110,000 -> 95,000
xx3 Buckshot now knocks back non-MOAB class Bloons a small amount on hit
Gwendolin The last Gwendolin change didn’t come through as well as intended for a number of reasons, so while keeping true to the intention behind this change it has been improved across the board to properly buff this again
Lv4 Heat it Up should trigger roughly 30% more at all levels
Adora Ball of Light’s power before level 20 has been improved to scale through the mid game better
Lv10 Ball of Light damage increased from Adora Damage +1 to +2
Lv15 Ball of Light damage increased from Adora Damage +1 to +3
Lv20 Ball of Light remains at Adora Damage +18
Etienne Etienne’s main power through mid-to-endgame intentionally comes from his UCAV, however it still overperforms and needs to be pulled back a bit.
Log Horizon season 3 is about to start, and if you're like me you do not at all remember everything that happened in seasons 1 and 2. Well, I didn't want to risk getting spoiled from reading wikis, so I binge-rewatched the first two seasons this past weekend and took a ton of notes so I can share with anyone else needing a reminder or ten.
This is certified 100% anime-only content meant specifically for anime viewers. I haven't even glanced at the light novels or wiki. Fans who have read the novels, this is NOT the place for you to chime in with "clarifications" and "by the ways". This place is for anime-only viewers, most of whom do not want to know the slightest bit of what happens next so we can experience it ourselves. I and the people in this thread do not give a rat-man's ass about some novel exposition from volume 2 that the anime skipped over in season 1 - go make your own thread if you are compelled to share that information.
This post is almost certainly going to hit the character limit, so I'm not going to summarize every major character or every plotline from the first two seasons. I could never hope to outline every major character's arc and development over 50 episodes in that few characters. Instead, I am only going to focus on the rules of the world and the plotlines that were still ongoing/unresolved at the end of season 2 - in other words, what I think you may need to know heading into season 3. Even if you don't remember them well, I'm sure you'll pick up the interdynamics of all these goofballs well enough just from seeing them in action again.
Elder Tale was a MMORPG that a bunch of people played. One day, everyone who was logged on got transported into a world that resembles the game. This event is now known as The Apocalypse.
Elder Tale's setting was called Theldesia. Geographically, it is the same land/ocean layout as the real Earth, but half as large.
When it was just a MMORPG, the game had 13 different servers, separated by region. If your character was in Theldesia's equivalent of Japan, you'd be playing on the Japanese server, and in order to travel to Theldesia's equivalent of Australia you'd have to switch to the Australian server. Most players played on the server corresponding to their region.
A 14th server, called Mare Tranquillitatis, also existed - it was a beta-testing server used for experimentation and testing features before they rolled out. Some players had access to it. Its geographical region is... the Moon.
The series has so far taken place entirely in the Theldesia equivalent of Japan, which is called Yamato or The Yamato Islands, and particularly in the city of Akiba (aka Akihabira) which is located approximately where Tokyo would be.
The Elder Tale MMORPG ran for 20 years in real-life before The Apocalypse happened.
Post-Apocalypse, the history of Theldesia has a ratio of 12:1 for events that happened in Theldesia vs in the real world. An event that happened in the 10th (real-life) year of Elder Tale's run happened 120 years ago in Theldesia history. This means that some Adventurers who had created their accounts and done notable things in earlier years of the Elder Tale game are now characters that are known to be over a 100 years old within the history of Theldesia.
When people and monsters in Theldisia die, their corpses turn into bubbles/particles after a short time.
The Apocalypse happened on the same day that the 12th expansion for Elder Tale was launching. This new expansion - called The Novasphere Pioneers - increased the level cap for players from 90 to 100, and was to include many new raid bosses and other content. Because of timezones, only the Japanese server had the expansion applied at the time The Apocalypse occured.
As of the end of season 2, it has been about 1 year in Theldesia since The Apocalypse.
Populations of Theldesia
Adventurers
Adventurers is the collective name of player characters in Elder Tale, turned special folks trapped in Theldesia after The Apocalypse.
Adventurers can be any of a bunch of different races - humans, dwarves, cat-people, fox-people, wolf-people, and more. They have classes, special skills, and all sorts of MMORPG staples, and typically can improve all these things beyond any other population in Theldesia.
Adventurers have a "friends list" which they can add each other to. They can make long-distance voice calls to anyone on their friends list - they refer to this as Telepathy.
Adventurers can also talk psychically to other adventurers they have formed a party or a raid team with. Note that this is a separate ability than Telepathy, so effects that block Telepathy from working won't necessarily also prevent party/raid chat.
When an Adventurer dies, they reappear at a Cathedral or another respawn point nearby (e.g. if in a raid zone they respawn at its entrance) after some time (anywhere from minutes to half a day).
In-between dying and reappearing, they have surreal experiences based on moments from their life before The Apocalypse, during which they must mentally confront the failures that lead to them dying. Once they've finished that, they appear on a beach on the moon (Mare Tranquillitatis) with the world (presumably Theldesia, though it could be the actual Earth I suppose) hovering overhead. There, the Adventurer must sacrifice a piece of themself (eventually confirmed to be a memory from their life before The Apocalypse) to return. When they wake up, they retain only the vaguest memory of this ritual or none at all. (See S2E6 for an example.)
Adventurers mostly live in Adventurer Cities - cities that have special buildings like guild halls, banks, and Cathedrals, and which are populated mostly by Adventurers but with many supporting People of the Land living there, too. Most or all of the Adventurer Cities in Yamato and many of their surroundings have a post-apocalyptic aesthetic, full of overgrown abandoned modern structures like highways, parking garages, and broken-down cars. There are 5 Adventurer Cities in Yamato:
Akiba (aka Akihabara) - Situated where Tokyo would be in real life. This is the primary setting of the series. Governed relatively liberally by the Round Table, a group of the most influential guilds.
Shibuya - An incomplete Adventurer city with no guild hall very near to Akiba. All the adventurers who were there have gone to Akiba so it is empty.
Susukino - Northern city in the real-life equivalent of Hokkaido. It started out as a violent city run by oppressive guilds. Akiba sent forces up there several times to let anyone who wants to leave it and come to Akiba, so only a couple hundred Adventurers remain there. The Akiba guild Silver Sword ended up moving there and taking it over, which made it less violent and lawless than before.
Minami - Situated to the west, vaguely where real-life Osaka would be. Governed autocratically by the guild Plant Hwyaden.
Nakasu - Even farther to the west. Very little is known about it.
Monsters
Monsters are hostile wild animals - things like angry giant plants, wild felines that attack in forests, etc. They are aggressive, have stats and levels and special skills, but are of similar intelligence to animals. They haunt certain areas, and when they die eventually replacements respawn there.
After they are killed and their bodies dissipate they "drop" ingredient/crafting items and gold coins.
Most Adventurer Cities, People of the Land cities, and some People of the Land villages have a "no monster" effect/barrier that prevents monsters from entering into them. Large-scale events like the goblin nation invading Eastal are probably not prevented by this.
Demi-Humans
Demi-Humans are a special type of monsters that includes species like goblins, giants, fishmen, and other usually-humanoid hostile creatures. Unlike other monsters, they have actual social structures, use weaponary, and seem to be at least semi-sentient.
Miscellaneous demi-humans can be found in the wild like monsters, but larger populations of them also occupy significant portions of territory - e.g. there is an area of Yamato full of goblin tribes that live in their own society and where People of the Land are not present. These areas can have complex social structures.
Similar to monsters, demi-humans magically spawn/respawn in their lands. Since they have some intelligence but are difficult to research, it's unclear whether this is new individuals spawning or whether they are actually respawning with intact personalities in a similar manner to Adventurers.
People of the Land
People of the Land are what were NPCs back when it was a MMORPG. In the game they just had simple NPC patterns, always saying the same things and doing the same basic tasks, but since The Apocalypse they are now fully sentient humanoids with their own lives, backstories, generations, politics, culture, etc. The People of the Land greatly outnumber the Adventurers - for every Adventurer City there are another dozen or more "regular" cities full of People of the Land and a bajillion towns and farms spread across the countryside.
Revival spells on a recently-dead Person of the Land slows down how fast their body disperses but doesn't prevent it.
The People of the Land in eastern Yamato (the area around Akiba) are socially structured as European-style feudal nobility, with each city and its surroundings ruled by a Baron and a patrilineal Duke as overall ruler of the area, or something like that. They have their own knights, armies, academia, etc.
Named NPCs would have lasted in the game for the whole 20 years that it ran before The Apocalypse, and with the timeline acceleration mentioned earlier that would make some of them a hundred years old or more, but it seems The Apocalypse retconned this and where necessary the names of characters the required continuation became titles passed from teacher to student, and so on. The People of the Land don't seem aware of any incongruities there.
People of the Land can learn skills, have classes, and other things that Adventurers can do, but they learn them much more slowly and generally have a lower "cap" on their level or abilities than Adventurers.
While People of the Land are less powerful than Adventurers, in some special cases they can have access to equipment that puts them on par or beyond the abilities of Adventurers. Of particular note, the Royal Guard (aka Defenders) are People of the Land who keep the peace in the no-combat-zones of Adventurer Cities - they have special armour that massively buffs their physical abilities and makes them able to teleport around the city.
Ancients:
Ancients (aka Progenitors) are a special class of People of the Land that are much more powerful than usual - even more powerful than maxed out Adventurers. In the MMORPG, these were mainly for two roles - legendary NPC characters tied to a particular quest, and the 13 Knight Orders. Only one Knight Order has been named in the anime - the Knights of Izumo that defended Yamato (since there are 13 regional servers, presumably there is one Knight Order per server). The Knights of Izumo suddenly disappeared around the time of The Apocalypse.
The Kunie Clan:
The Kunie Clan are a special group of People of the Land that manage all the banking and financial systems of Theldesia. They are of some mysterious other humanoid race that look similar but not quite the same as humans or elves, and they seem to all be almost identical (plus many or all of them seem to go by the same name, Kinjō, making them even harder to tell apart).
They can be found at the guild halls or banks of Adventurer Cities and similar places, but they also have secretive villages where they originate from that Adventurers and most People of the Land do not know about.
The Kunie Clan are not necessarily the actual cause, but are at least somehow involved with the world's supply of gold and how it gets distributed to monsters/demi-humans when they spawn. This includes access to the giant lake of gold coins that reside deep below the Depths of Palm and which serves as the world's main vault to store coins before they teleport to monsters and demi-humans.
They are also involved with many other "fundamental" aspects of the world, especially operating and managing ancient magical technology. For example, they can deactivate and reactivate the magic circles beneath Adventurer Cities which power the anti-monster barriers and Guard armour within the cities.
Instincts, Progress, & Innovation
When Elder Tale was a game, players were limited in what they could achieve by the limitations of built-in character animations, feats needing to have been pre-programmed as skills, and the game interface itself. Following The Apocalypse, the Adventurers in Theldesia still have access to the game interface and can still do everything the old way... but they don't have to. A magical leaping sword strike formerly activated by pushing a button can now also be activated by doing the same motions and thinking about using that skill. In fact, the latter option is better - the Adventurer can control and manipulate the skill with greater control and precision than the rote motions that result from doing it through the menu. Just as this applies to combat skills, so it goes for the rest of the world:
Food and Crafting
Combining ingredient items through the in-game interface according to a pre-programmed recipe makes food that looks correct and does nourish the body, but has no distinct taste or smell. But, if a player with the chef sub-class actually combines and prepares the ingredients by hand, it makes real food. More complex and difficult recipes require finer ingredients and a higher level in the cooking skill or they still end up turning to mush. Similarly, Adventurers with crafting sub-classes and skills can make superior, more refined, and more varied designs if they go through the process by-hand rather than using the crafting menu.
Innovation
Adventurers with the skill and ingenuity to create and craft things by-hand rather than using the menus are also not bound by the finite list of recipes and inventions that were programmed into Elder Tale. They can combine basics in all sorts of new ways not seen before. Soon after The Apocalypse, clever Adventurers developed basic steam engines and the rate of invention has been rapid ever since - less than a year later, someone has mixed magic and technology together to create a magitech hover train. These changes have had a far-reaching effect on the societies and economies of Theldesia. Facets of Adventurer culture such as their food and clothing have been swiftly embraced by the People of the Land and Adventurer economies have largely shifted away from quest-like tasks such as raids or guarding a People of the Land caravan to their own Adventurer industries, which has fractured the traditional Adventurer-People of the Land relationship and lead to many unforeseen consequences, such as an attempted goblin invasion.
Teachings
Teachings (aka Overskills) are supposed new skills achieved by some Adventurers that were not possible back when it was a game. They are commonly perceived as being a higher-tier version of commonly known skills or powerful new abilities. In actuality, Teachings are just (a) unorthodox applications of existing skills, or (b) instincts gained from becoming more in-touch with the world and losing the mentality of it being a game. E.g. Nazuna figured out that she can use the protective barriers she normally cast on other people as airborne platforms she can climb/jump on instead. Adventurers tend to
"The Apocalypse is not over yet"
As Shiroe comments, the natural laws of the world post-Apocalypse are altogether a confused mish-mash of Elder Tale game mechanics with real-world logic. Gradually, however, these two separate systems are starting to merge. Some known examples are:
Initially, an Adventurer needed to have the chef sub-class in order to be able to make any real food - even if a non-chef Adventurer prepared the ingredients perfectly, it would still turn to mush. After some time, though, anyone can now make basic recipes and the chef sub-class (plus leveled up cooking skill) is only needed for intermediate and harder recipes. Likewise for any other sort of crafting.
Adventurers whose Elder Tale avatar had a different body than their real body got stuck in their avatar's body, but retained their original voice. Over time, their voices are becoming more like what their body's physical vocal cords would naturally sound like.
The size of the world is slowly increasing, presumably until it becomes the same scale as the real Earth.
Objects had all sorts of associated flavour text in Elder Tale. They still have this flavour text in Theledisia after The Apocalypse, but it is just that - two objects with the same stats but different flavour text behave identically. After many months, though, the flavour text of some objects started coming true.
The Debauchery Tea Party
The Tea Party was a group of 15~30 Adventurers on the Japan server that frequently partied together in Elder Tale, many years before The Apocalypse. They were known for pulling off a number of incredible feats in the game, and generally had a more loose and fun tone than other groups since they weren't a structured Guild.
The Tea Party disbanded several years before The Apocalypse and many of its members moved on to other things. Some members joined or started guilds, while conversely many others had not logged in for years by the time of The Apocalypse.
Almost immediately after The Apocalypse, Shiroe checked his friends list to see who else that he knew was online/trapped in Theledesia, so he should have a pretty good idea of which members are/aren't in the world, but we the audience didn't get an exact list. Currently we know of 9 former Tea Partiers who are in Theledisia...
In Akiba:
Shiroe, Naotsugu, and Nyanta partied together in Theldesia and eventually formed Log Horizon.
Back when the Tea Party disbanded, Sōjiro, Kazuna, and Saki created a guild called the West Wind Brigade, with Sōjiro as guild-master. Saki wasn't logged in at the time of The Apocalypse.
In Minami:
Intix is the #2 seat on the Council of Ten of Plant Hwyaden and therefore 2nd in command of Plant Hwyaden behind only Nureha. She seems like a real big jerk and is part of the faction there that wants war and total dictatorial control of Yamato. Up until the end of season 2, it seems she was emotionally abusing Nureha to get her way within Plant Hwyaden. (I don't think they ever actually specifically said Intix was in the Tea Party, but from the way she's shown with them in the OP and how Kazuhiko/KR talk about her it's 99% certain.)
Kazuhiko is also on the Council of Ten of Plant Hwyaden. He seems to be fairly disgruntled with the way things have been going over at Plant Hwyaden, but is hoping to change it from within. He's kind of a jerk about it, though. He and Shiroe have been occasionally in contact with each other and have been sharing some info.
KR is on the Council of Ten of Plant Hwyaden. He's very carefree, but seems like a good guy overall - like Kazuhiko he doesn't necessarily approve of the way Plant Hwyaden is running things or their desire to go to war with Eastal and Akiba. KR is a summoner with a skill to possess creatures over vast distances - at some point he possessed a horse in the China serveregion to scout out what things were like over there and while traveling around in China he encountered Kanami's party. And he can summon a giant fucking dragon that solos raid bosses. He only told Kazuhiko about his journeys in China, not Intix or the rest of the Council.
Elsewhere:
Kanami was the leader of the Tea Party for most of its run, but she moved to Rome a few years before The Apocalypse and stopped playing the game at that time. During that time she had a daughter. Eventually, she got back into Elder Tale, creating a new account on one of the European servers, and she got trapped by The Apocalypse, too. Since the Novasphere Pioneers expansion pack content had only been loaded on the Japan server and figuring it was related to The Apocalypse, Kanami started journeying from Theldesia's Europe counterpart all the way to Yamato. Also in her party are a teenage mutant ninja frog, a farming bot that may have gained sentience, and an Ancient.
Unresolved Plots & Mysteries
Regan, New Magic and the World Fractions:
Regan (aka Li Gan) is a mysterious guy who has shown up a few times and gradually become an ally of Shiroe. He was first encountered when Shiroe et al went to a conference with the People of the Land nobles. He seems to be a Person of the Land, but I don't think that was ever actually confirmed. If he is, he's an extraordinarily knowledgeable one, possibly on par with the Kunie Clan. He's a shady guy who may have a hidden agenda.
He has the title Sage of Miral Lake, a name that was associated with a lot of lore in the game before The Apocalypse but (as far as we/Shiroe know) not a character anyone ever encountered. He says it is a title passed down to him from his teacher, the previous Sage of Miral Lake.
Regan's main interest of research is magic that is on the scale of altering the entire world, something that he says has only happened 3 times so far in events he calls the World Fractions - the creation of monsters/demi-humans, the arrival of the first Adventurers (240 years ago), and The Apocalypse.
Since each World Fraction was an unprecedented form of magic, he is intensely interested in the creation of new forms of magic that did not exist prior. Shiroe's Contract Magic which turned Rudy into an Adventurer was one such new magic, and one that Regan thinks could some day be world-altering. Around the same time, Regan says he felt another brand new form of magic with similar potential happin in the west.
Death and Resurrection
Regan and his predecessors were researching a so-called Spirit Theory about how death and resurrections work. His theory posits that people (Adventurers, People of the Land, and Demi-Humans) are divided into anima (physical attributes, correlated with HP) and psyche (mental attributes, correlated with MP). The psyche and the anima are each required for a person to persist - when people take too great of an injury their anima is too damaged to persist to it dissipates; the healthy psyche stuck inside the body dies when there's no anima to support it.
Since when people die in Theldesia their bodies turn into bubbles/particles, that is their anima dissipating. If the psyche is intact, revival spells can pull those dissipated bits of anima back to the rest of the body and put them back into place (up until the point where the body has completely dissipated). But if the psyche is also destroyed, there is no mind to reassemble the anima as it once was.
For Adventurers (and possibly demi-humans), their dissipated anima particles all travel to their respawn point, so their psyche can still reassemble them there. For People of the Land, the dissipated anima just scatters in all directions, so even a healthy psyche can't do reassemble them and dies.
However, the reassembly can't be perfect... some energy must be expended for the process. And since the anima seems to be reasembled perfectly, Regan and Shiroe theorized that some psyche must be lost - in other words, the person loses some of their memories. (See S1:E14 for the full spiel)
When Shiroe shared this with the Council, Krusty was able to confirm that this is indeed the case, and further suggested that it seemed like memories of their lives from before The Apocalypse might specifically be targeted. (After a particular death, Krusty could no longer remember the name or appearance of a cat he owned.)
Regan implied the Ancients had different spirits than ordinary People of the Earth and that this could be significant.
Shiroe and Akatsuki eventually remembered the experience of being on the moon between death and revival. We don't have a lot of comparison points as no one talks about it much, but it sure seemed like Adventurers always forget that in-between experience once they woke up (Akatsuki herself when she revives seems to remember it for a moment and then quite specifically forget it).
(Continued in the Navigators section)
Enemies in the West
To the west of Akiba and Eastal are three People of the Land nations - the Westelande Empire, the Ninetail Dominions, and the Fourland Dukedom - and within those are two Adventurer Cities - Minami and Nakasu.
Following The Apocalypse, a guild called Plant Hwyaden lead by Nureha took over Minami by conning money out of the People of the Land nobility and buying the Cathedral, then forcing all Adventurers to join Plant Hwyaden through the threat of controlling the respawn building. Plant Hwyaden now rules Minami and its environs autocratically, and is much more integrated with the People of the Land nation, the Westelandian Empire, than Akiba is with Eastal. Their combined government is run by an organization called the Council of Ten Seats - Nureha and her nine advisors/ministers, which includes some people of the land.
Nureha herself is a somewhat emotionally unstable person and she occasionally runs off on her own private journeys, so the much of the actual policy-making has been driven by Intix and Mizufa, the bloodthirsty Westelandian army general.
Ever since establishing control, Plant Hwyaden have made efforts to suppress information about the west making it to the east. This isn't outright possible, as plenty of Adventurers in Akiba have friends in Minami, but it has overall made it more difficult for Shiroe and the Round Table to gather detailed information about Plant Hwyaden's capabilities and motives.
Likewise, the presence of spies from Minami in Akiba has lead to the Round Table waging their own information warfare, trying to keep their own secrets and knowledge of their operations out of the hands of Plant Hwyaden.
Nureha herself came to Eastal, disguising herself as a People of the Land chronicler named Dariella. She was seen suspiciously visiting various various places in the east, and then eventually met up with Shiroe, who saw through the disguise. Revealing herself as Nureha, she encouraged Shiroe to join Plant Hwyaden so they wouldn't have to be enemies, but Shiroe declined. Apparently she knew Shiroe in the game before The Apocalypse and is somewhat obsessed with him now, but Shiroe doesn't remember her at all, and furthermore it's clear that Nureha lies a lot so who knows how much of this is true.
Recently, factions within Plant Hwyaden - especially Intix and Mizufa - want to go to war against Eastal and Akiba. They have been power-leveling their People of the Land soldiers (using a disturbing magitech system wherein People of the Land control spirit monsters), built a giant hover train base, and have been making other preparations.
They sent a small expeditionary force to the border of Eastal which caused a bit of havoc in some towns, but Kazuhiko and Nureha made them withdraw.
The threat of all-out war or a smaller, more focused attack by a faction within Plant Hwyaden still looms large. Nureha seems to be taking a more active role in government and standing up to Intix now, but that doesn't mean she has full control or even that she wouldn't order an attack herself.
The Disappearance of Krusty Suzumiya
Krusty is the guild leader of D.D.D., one of the most important guilds in Akiba.
When flavour texts started becoming real, the scythe (which admittedly had some pretty evil flavour text) of Krusty's lieutent, Takayama Misa, one night suddenly flew up into the sky and show a giant red beam of pain around her. Krusty pushed her out of it and got caught in it himself. Then the beam disappeared, Krusty and Misa's arm vanishing with it.
For the longest time no one knew what had happened to Krusty. He did not respawn, could not be reached by Telepathy, and Misa's arm couldn't be healed or revived either.
At the very end of season 2, they discovered that Krusty is in China with Kanami.
He still has Misa's arm with him. And it is twitching (ew).
Ennui & Social Safety Nets
Living as an Adventurer is easy. Slaying a couple low-level monsters every few days gives more than enough gold coins to buy food and a bed. Throughout their time since The Apocalypse, the leaders of Akiba have struggled to keep its culture and economy engaging so that its people will have motivation and drive.
However, the mostly-capitalist system of economy and governance they've established, especially with its focus on guilds within the government structure and trade in its economy, has furthermore left a growing population of Adventurers who do not have social standing, influence, or prized trade skills and who do not wish to leave the safety of the city disenfranchised and despondent.
The Round Table is aware of the issue but hasn't figured out what to do about it.
Most recently, Eins and his enormous guild Honesty have been the leading voice for this issue. He's even suggested some extreme socialist/communist economic reform measures, but no one else thought that was a good idea.
Navigators
During a westward quest, the junior members of Log Horizon encounter Roe2, Shiroe's second account, acting independently from him. She says a bunch of cryptic stuff and also sends a letter to Shiroe via the juniors. Putting it all together (but she could be lying about some or all of this):
Navigators are artificial lifeforms that come from a society that ran out of empathion and now search different universes for more in order to survive.
What, exactly, empathion is is not entirely clear. It seems to be a resource necessary for life and which is evidently tied to the psyche.
The Navigators were brought into this world by a process they call "the Match", something they don't fully understand and which they did not cause. Probably the same thing as The Apocalypse.
Navigators are divided into two types: Observers, whose role and motives is not yet fully clear; and Harvesters, who are less intelligent than Observers or Adventurers/Humans and who prioritize collecting empathion above all else.
Adventurers dying is one way that empathion is collected. Given the name and the correlation with the psyche, it's 99.9% certain that this is the same thing as when Adventurers give up a bit of their memories on the moon before they revive.
Navigators don't have their own bodies in Theldesia - instead, they have taken over the bodies of unused character accounts and monsters. In particular, Roe2 took over Shiroe's alt account on the Mare Tranquillitatis server (and other Observers have likely taken over other accounts there) while Harvesters have taken over Geniuses (see below).
Roe2 was able to get to Yamato by swapping positions with a summoned creature, but most Observers are still on the moon. She told Shiroe that if he contacted them, they could help him find a way home.
Genius
Geniuses seem to be a new type of quest/raid boss that were introduced in the Novasphere Pioneers expansion pack. They have a common theme of being disguised as People of the Land (including all the appropriate menu pop-ups), and are only revealed as monsters after certain triggers or once confronted.
Most, but not all, of them become powerful raid bosses once revealed.
Easily identified (once unmasked) by them all having a "Genius of " title.
They have all been taken over by Harvesters, used in Harvester plots to thwart Adventurers and increase the rate of Adventurer death so that more empathions are collected. And this means they can show up anytime as new adversaries rather than only as part of quests or events.
Their abilities and tactics vary wildly. Some are simple combat adversaries, another was stealthily kidnapping Adventurers through hypnosis.
One Genius/Harvester referred to Elias, an Ancient, as "a survivor" suggesting that they are related to the disappearance of the Ancients.
While they aren't as intelligent as Adventurers/Observers, don't think of them as mindless foes. As soon as Akiba started planning to use the Shibuya antenna station, the Geniuses setup an Eternal Moth hive around it blocking the Adventurers' attempts to use it and potentially forcing them to destroy the antenna along with the hive.
The Third/Fourth Party
Since The Apocalypse, Shiroe was searching for evidence of "the third party" - that is, people or things other than Adventurers and People of the Land, and who presumably caused The Apocalypse. He believes that The Apocalypse must have been caused with some motive, and therefore whoever is responsible should be out there somewhere. However, all his various investigations could not find any evidence that a third party exists until Roe2's letter.
However, Roe2 says that the Navigators did not cause The Apocalypse, leaving this still an open-ended question.
Since the Navigators are "artificial" lifeforms, it hasn't been ruled out yet that whoever created the Navigators is also the ones that caused The Apocalypse.
A Way Home
Of course, the big question always looming over the Adventurers has always been "can we go home?" As they learn more about the world and create even more advanced new magics and technologies, they may find such a way.
At the end of season 1, Nureha suggests that Shiroe is on the verge of finding a way home. Shiroe says he doesn't know if whatever technique he's cooked up yet really does send someone home, yet, all he knows is that it makes them disappear.
Following the letter from Roe2, Akiba is now trying to contact the moon where they may be able to learn more about how to get home from the Observers.
Some Adventurers are truly desperate to return to their old life and feel that Theldesia is their prison, especially those who feel disenfranchised by the current socioeconomic structure of Akiba. At its most extreme are the Odyssey Knights, who intentionally get themselves killed in order to glimpse the old world in the mid-revival dreams.
On the other hand, many Adventurers have adapted to life in Theldesia. Many enjoy their life here better than their old life and have no wish to return.
Shiroe was torn on this issue, seeing no good option. Either undo The Apocalypse, separating thousands of happy Adventurers from their friends, their new lives, sending many back to misery... or don't, forcing the other miserable thousands to remain imprisoned in Theldesia. But a well-timed inspiring conversation with Kanami reminded Shiroe of what Log Horizon is all about - achieving the impossible third option. Hence, Shiroe and Log Horizon aren't trying to undo The Apocalypse anymore, they want to find a way to merge the two worlds so people can travel freely between them.
Other Mysteries
The fast-travel gates between Adventurer Cities have been offline since The Apocalypse. Regan says it has something to do with the moon phases.
Shiroe and Kanami almost certainly had a mutual crush back in the Tea Party days. Shiroe wasn't over it for most of the series but he is now.
Akatsuki has a crush on Shiroe but is shy about admitting it/pushing it and Shiroe is pretty oblivious to it.
Minori also crushes on Shiroe. She's more upfront about it, but he's even more oblivious to this one, though pretty much everyone else has noticed it. (Shiroe and Akatsuki are both college-aged while Minori is like 14 or something so this isn't much of a love triangle per se, more of a character development for Minori plus a way to pressure Akatsuki into taking more initiative.)
Nureha is unhealthily obsessesing over Shiroe from afar.
Serera has a little-girls-first-admiration sort of crush for Nyanta, and absolutely everyone knows it. Nyanta is a perfect gentleman.
Marielle and Naotsugu started out as just platonic friends that get along well, but this has gradually evolved into something vaguely resembling the start of a relationship. They were even long-distance-calling each other every night to share their day with each other for a bit.
Shōryū has a crush on Marielle, which Marielle is oblvious about. Shōryū gets jealous when Marielle pays attention to other boys (particularly Naotsugu), which Hien loves to tease him about.
Henrietta likes dressing up cute girls in cosplay as a hobby/obsession. She has a squad of subjects for her obsession in her guild, but she is especially fond of doing so to Akatsuki.
Henrietta has had a couple moments of thought about crushing on Shiroe, but has no intention to pursue the idea further.
Sōjiro is a harem protagonist.
Nazuna is Sōjiro's one true love, or else the childhood bestfriend character that hangs out in the harem but ultimately only loves him platonically.
Naotsugu must decide who he loves more, Marielle or panties.
Krusty and Princess Lenessia have a pretty good thing going. I dunno what it is, but it's good and it was going, until he disappeared.
Rudy is an eager puppy and Isuzu is his proud owner.
I'm really glad I rewatched all of Log Horizon. In my opinion, it is a series that has gotten even better with age. If you are debating about delaying season 3 to rewatch the first two seasons or not, I say do it. There was no shortage of isekai series when Log Horizon first aired, and that number has only increased since. But how many isekai series actually want to seriously engage with their premise? Having the protagonist recognize that they've been transported into a video game world only to immediately shrug off all possible ramifications of this is funny, sure, but it's also definitely taking the easy way out. Nowadays, many series don't even bother with the 5-minute isekai-and-forget-it routine and just opt to pitch it as a fantasy tale in a nonsensically video game-themed setting, but even then the characters rarely engage with the consequences of the setting being game-ified. Not so Log Horizon. Log Horizon never forgets that its characters are real people and real gamers, worried far more about the existential unknown than yet another goblin king.
